Packed Beds – This is when the Resin has an Inert Resin Placed on top of the Active Resin this stops the Resin moving and maintains the high level of Regenerated Resin layers so this makes a Back Wash ineffective and most defiantly redundant, normally used in Counter Current and Short Cycle based Systems.
Resin Tumbling – mainly found if you have quality problems with Counter Current and Short Cycle Systems, this occurs if insufficient Inert or Active Resin has been used to fill the Vessels on a Deioniser System this means that the System has lost the Highly Regenerated layer due to the Resin moving as water flows through it.
Hunting – The indicated Water Quality keeps going from Water Good to Water Bad after a Polishing Recirculation, it produces a small amount of water the approximate amount of the Vessel Volumes then goes to Water Bad again, numerous problems could have occurred normally insufficient Chemicals were drawn during a Regeneration is the cause.
Back Wash – The Reverse Flow of water through the Vessel to remove the Colludial Matter from the Resin this also loosens the Media ready for the Regenerate Chemicals.
Motive, Chemical Injection – The sucking out of the Chemical Storage System the Volume of Chemical required to Regenerate the Resin, this is normally a Venturi based System and would incorporate a Metering Valve or Restrictor Disc to control the volume of chemical drawn.
Slow Rinse or Displacement – This is the slow removal of the Regeneration Chemicals which have been drawn into the Vessel and it ensures that the Chemicals are evenly distributed around the Media Bed.
Fast Rinse – This is normally the final stage of the Regeneration Process where the Chemical is finally removed and the Resin Bed is compacted ready to go back into Service.
Compaction – This is normally the term used for the flow that lifts the Resin ready for the Chemicals to be injected into the Resin, mistakenly thought to be a Back Wash normally found in Packed Beds.
Co Current – The Flow of water when in service would normally go from the Top of the Vessel to the Bottom, the Regeneration Chemicals would go in the same direction and this unit is a Standard Based Deioniser System.
Counter Current – The Flow of Water when in service would normally travel from the
Bottom of the Vessel to the Top of the Vessel, when in Regeneration the Chemical
is injected at the top of the Vessel and goes out at the bottom. This ensures that
the water, when in Service, passes through the most highly Regenerated Resin as it
leaves the Vessel; this ensures the best quality water normally installed in Very
High Quality based Systems. This System would NOT Backwash before Regenerating so
requires some Pre-
Short Cycle Regeneration – This is when the Cation and Anion Resins are Regenerated at the same time reducing the time taken to < 45 Minutes, but this System will require Deionised Water to do this otherwise Hardness such as Calcium etc from a Potable Water Supply would precipitate onto the Anion Resin and stop it working.
Water Bad – The Water Quality has gone above the set point set in the System Conductivity Meter (uS/CM).
Water Good – The Water Quality is below the set point set in the Conductivity Meter (uS/CM).
Recirculation – The Water is continuously Recirculating around both Vessels, Cation first then Anion, then back to the Pump Inlet, this means the Unit could be in Water Bad, coming Good after Water Bad or the Unit is in Stand By because the Treated Water Tank is Full.
